4.4.8 System.Web.Mail is corrupting my PDF attachments, what gives?

There can be a few different issues here. Lets try to briefly cover them.

1. If you open up messages in the badmail directory and you see something like:

Diagnostic-Code: smtp;554 Service unavailable; Client host [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] blocked using dnsbl.njabl.org (or some other Open Relay Database )

you are being labeled as a spammer by an Open Relay Database. Contact the Open Relay database that has blocked you for more information.

2. If you see a message like:

Unable to connect to transport….

Your mailserver cannot get out to the network, or else it cannot resolve DNS names. Using nslookup, verify you can correctly resolve DNS names, and perform MX record lookups on the sever. If that works, you may want to either try forwarding your mail to a smart host, or sending directly (depending upon which setting you have checked in the SMTP Service properties).

A smart host, is a mail sever that can forward mail on behalf of your server. If you have an additional mail server available, enter that mail server's IP address, or DNS name in the smart host text box. To get to the smart host text box:

Open the IIS Admin MMC
Right-click the Virtual SMTP Server, and select Properties
On the Delivery tab, click the Advanced button.
Under the Smart Host textbox, enter your smart host.
Either check/or uncheck The "Attempt direct delivery before sending to your smart host.".
Close all dialogs.

You may need to stop and restart the services after changing these settings.

Since i've installed AOL9 non of my e;mails are coming in or going out.My contacts are not receiving them and i;m not getting theirs.What could the problem be?

    Fact: the AOL install chops up all other connections to the internet. I discovered this a while back. I had a simple ppp connection to an ISP. They removed a dll and currupted one or two others. Back then, they weren't cozy with Netscape, so they messed with Netscape DLLs too. To fix it I removed AOL and had to replace the DLLs!!! (can't remember which ones though - sorry), and voilla! So I haven't touched AOL ever again. Filemon at sysinternals.com might help you figure out which dlls are malfunctioning - or google it... And you might have to do the replacements in Safe mode...

  Since Road Runner "updated" their software this week, I don't have any idea how to get at my e-mails. Nothing on the screen is familiar, and I've tried reading some of the "help" bits, but it's all Greek to me. I know I should have some e-mails that came through in Outlook Express in these last two days that Road Runner was shut down for changes. Help! Was the Outlook Express replaced by System.Web.Mail, or what?

554 Error [ Reply ]
When I try to send a rather complex email form, in html, from a server I get:

Diagnostic-Code: smtp;554 Too long line.
with "." on a line by itself

The email is sent programmatically in vb.net from a form on a web page. Other simpler emails sent in this way are okay.

Any help would be appreciated.

  Lines in email cannot be over 1000 characters long.
  
  Make sure you put a vbCrLf in the text somewhere to break it up.

Emails stay in queue folder [ Reply ]
Why all emails, either send from my asp or Outlook Express will stuck in queue folder. .. But my Microsoft Outlook in working fine.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    I am also having the same problem, but in mys case the emails are sent when I Stop and Start the Default SMTP Virtaul Server in IIS.
    Can anybody tell me how can the mails be sent from the queue without having to Stop-Start the server again?

  i have the same problems, the mail ends up either in the queue or in bad mail. to open a bad file use notpead or wordpad.

all the mails are residing in the bad folder,when i open the email file in bad folder its giving the following error...

Unable to deliver this message because the follow error was encountered: "This message is a delivery status notification that cannot be delivered.".

The specific error code was 0xC00402C7.

The message sender was <>.

The message was intended for the following recipients.
