System.Web.Mail is truncating the message body.

Usually you have a line in the body that is too long. The email rfc's state that a line should not contain more than 1000 characters. Try inserting a CrLf (vbCrLf for VB.NET or "\r\n" for C#) in your message body to break up long lines.

Be sure to also check that you don't have any lines that start with one or more periods, as that signals the end of message to the SMTP server.

system.web.mail is sending the mail properly through remote server ,but in the body it shows only the first character of the body text my code is

  Yes, yes, I'm having the same problem. I have not yet resolved the problem. I have tried putting the vbCrLF in the body message every here and they. I don't know if that worked yet or not. If you come up with a solution before I do, please let me know.

Have you seen an issue where random exclamation marks appear in an email's body when using system.web.mail in html format?

    Hi,
    
    Dont know if you're still having trouble with this but it almost killed me too.
    
    Apparently there is a maximum line length of 1024 characters when writing to SMTP. These exclamation marks are something to do with the line end. You have to force a new line using VBCRLF (carriage return line feed... ahhh typewriters... ;-) ) before every 1024 characters of html to stop it happening.
    
    If you look at the source of an email that has these exclamation marks, you will see it drops the html onto a new line after each one. Sticking a VBCRLF in will do this programmatically. It wont change the appearance of the resulting email in terms of layout but will change the appearance of the source... oh yeah... and it gets rid of the exclamation marks.
    
    This works using legacy asp but I'm sure its something similar if not the same in .net.

      I did use this recommendation and replaced my email body with "\r\n" at every 1000 characters. It removed the exclamation point but left a space character in the actual message in that position. When I check the email source, I see html is broken at these points, which was the goal; however, I don't know how to get rid of this extra space character on the actual email body where I put the CRLF characters. Any ideas?

        Sure. Put the \r\n in place of the last space found under 1000 characters.

        Thanks for the reply but I am not sure if I get it right because there is no space in at the end of that 1000 character set I have. My text is the repeat of alphabet letters as :
        
        ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
        
        and so on and I see the html as
        
        ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVW\r\nXYZ ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
        
        But the email body shows as
        
        ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVW XYZ ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

        ahh.. that's a unique situation.
        
        What you need to do is to content-transfer-encode the contents using a Quoted-Printable routine. I don't think you can force this in System.Web.Mail.
        
        You need to either roll your own component, or using something like aspNetEmail where you can manually control the content-transfer-encoding.

        Thanks for your advise, Dave. What I ended up doing is to search the last occurrence of the space character at each 1000 character set in my email body, and I inserted CRLF just before that space and continued searching from that point on. And guess what? It worked and did not add that extra space in lieu of my CRLF.
        I have tested the email I generated by sending it to different email accounts I have in Lotus Notes, Outlook 2003, Comcast, and Yahoo. They all work fine with the exception of Outlook 2003, which still keeps that exclamation point plus the space after that. I am curious if you know whether or not Outlook 2003 has a known issue that this workaround does not work with it.

        I am using old ASP and have this ! problem too. Becuase I am building my emails dynamically based on database info, and am building tables fo rnice neat structure, it is even more of a chanllenge. One weirdizm is when the 1024 character happens to be in the middle of a <TR>...It makes that data line appear at the top of the email since it treats it as text NOT in the table. Real pain.

        Make sure your lines are shorter than 997 characters.

        for html formated mails, take 1000 chars at a time and check for the last occurance of the "greater than" symbol, which is the closing character of a tag. then insert the "\r\n" in the next position. this way you can avoind the "\r\n" characters to be written inside the tag and also the line breaks are inserted well before 1024 characters.

        small correction... the max no. characters in a line is 998(including carriage returns). ref: http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2822.html. So better take 950 char,to be at safer side, at a time and then proceed as I've mentioned earlier. This worked for me !!

After displaying Chinese char,rest of the body message truncates [ Reply ]
In my mail body, User name is displayed in Chinese characters and rest of the mail is in English.
For eg:
Yong,
You have following invoices for approval:
"characters in chinese", XYZ
Thank you.

After I use the encoding, and after I convert the chinese characters using the encoding, rest of the mail body gets truncated and only following is displayed:

Yong,
You have following invoices for approval:
"characters in chinese"

I have even tried vbcrlf.
